There’s nothing funny about war. There’s nothing funny about a peaceful country being invaded and there’s nothing funny about the suffering that follows.
But… I’ll still make jokes. I’ll still write silly tweets. I’ll still make fun of people like Karjakin for supporting the war and I’ll still make fun of FIDE officials for doing as little as humanly possible. I do it because I can’t really do anything else and I’ll make a few people smile. Their day will be slightly less shitty (even if it’s still really shitty).
If my stupid jokes don’t make you smile, then I’m sorry. It’s okay not to smile today. And probably tomorrow too - but the intent of a joke does matter and that’s what my intent is.
Anyway, here are some tweets by an idiot and some non-idiots.
Karjakin’s first comment wasn’t his own, just that he agreed with this piece. I won’t share the entire thing but it included this gem:

Though he did (kind of) apologize.

13 minutes later…

Once again, the replies were not kind.

A popular response to all of his posts was…
To end on a more positive note, it looks like my favourite chess website just got better.

Though it’s nice to see the chess community being more or less united in condemning Russia’s aggression, all the tweets in the world making fun of Karjakin are unlikely to change much (hard to believe, I know).
